  1. Reprimanding anyone is never going to be pleasant. But handled properly, it can be productive and effective. So I would like to adopt the second half of the reprimand which will maintain dignity and self respect of others and it might bring change in the behaviour and performance.

  4. At each stage, the employer needs to state verbally—better yet, put in writing—that the employee’s lack of response can lead to additional disciplinary action up to, and including, termination.

This covers the employer if at any point in the disciplinary process it becomes apparent that the employee can’t or won’t improve their performance. Once this is determined, there is no point in continuing the progressive discipline. It is time-consuming and troublesome for a manager who needs an employee to step up and do their job, and for whatever reason, the job doesn’t get done. In my opinion I think all the things are important but it only depends upon the situation.

  5. Sometimes reprimand is essential at several situations. Second half reprimand is more effective and productive than others because of psychological factors. That means from the pyschology of child they want proper attention towards them…. When teacher remind, realize and reaffirm the situation of the students …Students will automatically realize his mistakes…….. Teacher must know when reprimand is over…. It’s over means never told child again and again…. Its impacts goes bad on them…… So for effective and productive result reprimand of second half is essential.

  6. Second half reprimand is more effective in the development of a child. A way of reprimand should be like that the child should realize the real motive after reprimand. This is very much important that one’s reprimand is over; it means its over and it should be over. The child should not be told again and again on the same topic. It will give reverse effect to the child; so according to me second second half is more effective.

  10. In my opinion as a learner, Point No: 1 ” Telling Students before hand … ” sets a stage wherein any reprimand at the end of a project or task shall be received by the student mostly with a flavor that of an advisory. Also, Point No: 4 ” Realise that when the reprimand is over …. ” is important to instill the desired confidence in the learner.

  11. I believe that a reprimand is a verbal technique that is used to reduce inappropriate behavior. Broadly defined, reprimands include any attempt to decrease behavior through verbal means, such as talking, lecturing, pleading, yelling, reasoning, or threatening. The verbal reprimand is the most frequently used and method of classroom discipline . One study found that teachers use a once every two minutes (White, 1975). If used properly, a verbal reprimand can be a punishment technique that is useful for decreasing inappropriate behavior. A reprimand can be a punishment to a child if it is considered unpleasant and reduces the behavior being reprimanded. However, care should be taken that the reprimand does not become a way of obtaining teacher attention via negative attention-seeking behavior. There are several advantages to using reprimands in the classroom. The most obvious is that they are simple. They have also been shown to be effective when used properly. Specifically, they have been shown to be more effective in promoting on task behavior than positive encouragement alone.

  15. Being specific in first half is what I think would give us a positive result….otherwise when we relate two-three things all together,it gives a wrong, negative impact…We don’t want to loose him or not want to extend the gap but basically want him to improve and realize his mistake….and “Realise that when the reprimand is over, it’s over” is quite the perfect way to get the improvement desired..

  16. When we work for something, feedback is a tool which scale or rate our work, here reprimend for sure has a vital role to play especially when it is knitted well and for a specific purpose. I strongly believe that reprimend must be over on a short journey and most importantly reprimend should be given for work or task not for a person hence second half is productive which serves both purposes without harming any bond.

Be conscious of the tone of your voice, your position in the room, your posture, and your eye contact. There is a delicate balance that must be maintained.

  26. The first half techniques are more effective in one minute reprimand always. Second half techniques will work only if students try to understand the situation and assure that they will not repeat the mistake. Both the techniques are effective in their own way. Telling them beforehand make them alert.

  27. Just Wow ….I mean wonderful thoughts has been generated in me after to going through this novice blog post. Obliviously all three strands go hand in hand. But beginning with second that at first specifically the people should be reprimanded immediately.
And the most importantly, If it has been once done, everything should be sorted down peacefully. Physical Contact like shaking hands or patting the person will help out the person to come out from that emotional and mental breakdown

  30. From my point of view the second half is more important. For a reprimand to be effective it is important to know when to end it which most of the educators miss.
In this way it gives shot to the child and the possibilities of that child thinking upon it seriously increases which will be the result of his improvement.

  31. Greetings for the day! I strongly believe that the evil should be nipped in the bud. As and when a teacher confronts a delinquent student, that student should be brought back on right track. A little strictness is also fine as it has been rightly said ,”Spare the rod, spoil the child”, but it does not mean that a teacher has grudges against a student, rather a teacher cannot afford a student moving to wrong track and certainly a teacher has a soft corner for all of her students. There is a group of students who never mend their ways without being punished because their logic is rod, again I must affirm that after punishing those delinquent students as well the teacher has to show her affection and care to make them understand that they play an important role in the class. To sum up punishment is always for the betterment of a student. A teacher never punishes a student out of ill-will and it should be surely for the sake of constructive development of the learners.

  41. Reprimanding means a verbal attempt to reduce the inaccurate ways or compel the person to mend the wrong ways. Initial stage could be counselling or talking to the person expecting a positive result. But if this doesn’t work, then a tight scolding is required to make a person realise whatever is done by him, is wrong and not expected to be repeated. And i feel it is necessary when we see the behaviour is deteriorating rather than improving.

    1. In my opinion , rather than contemplating a ‘tight scolding’, you may wish to considering referring the matter to a School Counselor or in an instance at home, you may wish to refer the matter to a family elder- It’s proven that a dialogue is a more effective process.

  43. The teachers of Indian schools, especially reprimand the students of India because they think that they need to keep the students in discipline and they opt reprimanding the students the right way in which they get bring themselves back on the track so as to perform as the teacher wishes. It is possible and most of the times, it is the thing that teachers are actually trying to help the students in this way, at least they think that they are helping by reprimanding the students.

It maybe because the students do not finish a given class work, home work or any other curricular activities, which was given by the teacher and was expected to be done. It may be of various other reasons like attitude problem of the students in the class towards studies etcetera. So in my view point depending on the conditions and the behavior of the student..both the points are valid mild and harder
