  1. In my opinion it’s No: 6 ( Indecision ). I have observed at times , certain Managers/staff over-contemplate and protract a basic decision. It doesn’t inspire confidence, does it? If anything, appearing indecisive tends to make us doubt a person. a)We may assume our colleague is trying to play it safe and protect themselves from risk at any cost. b) We may think they lack the grit necessary to deal with the consequences, good or bad. c) We may even question their knowledge and experience. I feel,Indecisiveness is surrendering precious time, energy, and other resources by prolonging a decision whose outcomes could be the same—if not better—if they’d made a quick call.

In fact an important HSBC survey of staff throughout India found that of all the traits that can help leaders / Mentors build credibility, the three skills that make the biggest impact are open communication, DECISIVE ACTION, and personal presence.

  2. In my opinion it’s No. 1( limit your options). We’re already stretching our self to make—and stick to—a decision, so don’t pressure yourself to work on this skill when we have a million other things going on. If we’re distracted by a totally unrelated urgent deadline, then it’s not the moment to challenge yourself to make a choice without second-guessing.
Instead, look for a time when you don’t feel pressured to multitask. Seize that window to think through some decisions, like what direction you want to take an upcoming project, or which of two approaches you think makes the most sense.

    1. I think you are quite right, Madam. I guess it’s often best to limit your options.
Too many options can lead to analysis paralysis, where no choice is made, or , where the process of evaluating options drains your decision-making reserves and causes you to make a poor choice.

  3. Decision making is the key skill in the workplace and very important for leaders. It is also important every day in your personal life. … Decision making is a critical skill for effective management and leadership and this type of managements and leadership qualities allows us to limit our duties i.e our options. According to me point no..1(limit your options) is having its own importance .Be independent is the best way to follow our limits. Good decision makers are “collaboratively independent and admit your mistakes.Gather Information for Weighing Your Options. When making good decisions it is best to gather necessary information that is directly related to the problem.

  4. Life is full of tough choices, but they don’t need to be massive drains on your time. Lay a strong foundation to make decisions generally like When we really struggling with a decision, it’s often because your mind thinks one thing is practical while your heart wants something else. Pay attention to what you hope will happen. For example, when you ask a mentor for advice, what are you hoping she’ll tell you to do or not do? Or if you had to make a decision based on a coin toss, which side would you hope it lands on? We’re not purely rational creatures. It’s right (and good!) to listen to your hopes because they often give you deeper insight into the decisions you actually want to make.

  7. According to me point 2,4 are important. we should know the difference between good and bad choices. We should take decisions according to that.
Time is very precious to all of us and so we should do our work on time. If time has gone once, it never comes again. We should know the value and respect the importance of time every single moment. We should not waste time at all till the end moment of our life. Time is very strong and powerful than everything in this world.

    1. You are quite right about No: 2 , Madam ( Hard line between Good or Bad Choices ). In fact, you will be pleasantly surprised to note that all trained managers are taught to apply the following system to arrive at GOOD CHOICES:

Good Manager / Parents look into four things to consider when making a Good choice for taking a decision:

      Goals
      Options
      Outcomes
      Probabilities

The first letters of these make up the word GOOP. Making a decision involves thinking about all four of these elements. You might feel that we don’t need to think much about one of these elements (such as probability), Sorry – each of the 4 elements are equally important to ponder upon. You are sure to make a good choice should you apply the GOOP.

  8. According to me, point number 4 is very important i.e. THINK OF YOUR TIME AS MONEY. As “Money can always be gained; lost Time can never be recovered.” So, whenever we are making the decisions it should be within the time period and we shouldn’t take long pauses to take our decisions. Secondly, REMEMBER THAT INDECISION KILLS so as we are making our decisions we must focus on the thing that we should take a correct decision. which will be beneficial for us in the future. In the last, MAKE A HARD LINE BETWEEN GOOD AND BAD CHOICES as it will take you on the right path of your choice.
So, firstly make up your mind to the time limit provided, then see that this shouldn’t lead to an indecision and then see the pros and cons of that decision. and finally take the decision for a situation.

  10. Life is full of tough choices, but they don’t need to be massive drains on your time. Having clear values that you try to live by can make tough decisions easier. For example, maybe you know there’s a certain amount of time you want to spend with your family, or a baseline level of debt you’re willing to carry. When it comes time to a decision about work travel, or taking a new job with a long commute, or making a big purchase, you’ll immediately recognize whether choosing a certain course of action would violate one of those values or guide rules and one more thing When you’re really struggling with a decision, it’s often because your mind thinks one thing is practical while your heart wants something else. Dear Madam, you’re right about No: 5, In fact at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) the 1st thing that all cadets are taught is “Decisiveness is a characteristic of high-performing men and women. Almost any decision is better than no decision at all.” Therefore, as someone in a leadership position you should know that over a period of time successful people don’t always make the right decisions, but they DEVELOP THE KNOW OF HOW TO MAKE THEIR DECISIONS TAKEN RIGHT.

    1. Quite right No:1, Madam. In a widely published discoveries made by psychologist Sheena Iyengar from Columbia University, New York, who studies the paradox of choice – the idea that while we think more choice is best, often less is more. The problem is that greater choice usually comes at a price. It makes greater demands on your information-processing skills, and the process can be confusing, time-consuming and at worst can lead to paralysis

She observed , People get more pleasure from choosing a Mithai from a selection of five than when they pick the same sweet from a selection of 30.

    1. Dear Madam, GOOP is indeed helpful. William Goldman, famous Screen writer explains , “of course, we make small decisions all the time, simple choices that inform our everyday experience: what to eat, what to wear, whether or not to work out, what TV show to watch, etc. These decisions are easy because the stakes are low. They have predictable outcomes and give us a certain sense of control. By taking these decisions promptly, we develop a habit of easily taking other crucial decisions promptly.” says Goldman.

  18. It is true that decesivness increase with every decision. Embrace the notion that, no matter what, you’ll never be able to gather all the information relevant to a decision. That’s because there’s virtually an infinite amount of information relating to any choice you’re making. With every choice you make, you’re working with incomplete data, and there’s not a thing you can do about that. Accepting this truth can make it easier to move forward with a particularly difficult decision.

  20. According to me all mentioned points to be taken into consideration, no one mentioned about gut feeling & indecisive decision can kill ,as we are human beings we do have our sixth sense also,so we can’t ignore this point also and decision do affects others, making decisions does not have to be an overwhelming process. The most important thing to remember when faced with an important decision is to determine what type of impact the decision will have on the people involved. Many bad decisions can be remedied, however, the more people the decision impacts, the more difficult it will be to remedy the situation. When making a decision, determine how your choice will impact your life and as well as the lives of others, and respond accordingly.

  21. Making decisions can be quite challenging. When we are trying to decide what to eat for dinner, or if we should get married it helps when our thoughts are clear. Yet, such clarity is often elusive. Either we settle for whatever first comes to mind or we hastily choose an option because we are running out of time. In the case of dinner we may rely on our usual go-tos: pizza, tacos or whatever meets our eyes at the local supermarket. And in the relationship scenario depending on what we choose, we may either be knee deep in diapers, debt, and drool, or left feeling destitute, disillusioned and down in the dumps. Often, we try to cope with such decisions by rationalizing them and trying to see the good in our choices.

  26. According to me, the point number 2 and 5 are essential for decision making. We must know good and bad choices. Sometimes we take decision without knowing it is good or bad that results later we apologize for our decisions… So we must know it is good or bad in long term. Point no 5 decisiveness grow with each decision is also important… When we take so many decisions in our life…. It will grow decisiveness…. With the experience we know which one is good for us…. Or not. One point is also in my mind most of times takes decisions from your heart. Because that decision is always true. Just an example when we had confusion about our decisions ..toss a coin…when you tossing… One think that is head will come out please…… It means that voice is of your heart……. Go with head……. Whether it comes or not….. That decision is always true.

  28. According to me point no. 2,4 and 5 are most important because decision making helps the organisation to face and tackle new problems and challenges. Quick and correct decisions help to solve problems and to accept new challenges. Good leaders interact with the organization at all levels and with cross-functional teams. Many times during these interactions, opportunities to take action on smaller issues will present themselves. These small opportunities are issues, changes, or decisions that can be addressed by a few of those directly involved without much involvement from the leader.

Except that those small decisions can start to pile up and too many can stress us out—and then we can’t make the decisions that actually matter. So we either put it off, or we do it, distracted, and regret it later. Neither is ideal.

In a startup especially, it is vital that every big decision you make is within the scope of your mission. You don’t have the mental or physical resources to spread your net too wide and still succeed. So always ask yourself which option best moves you toward your mission’s goal, and then the choice should be simple.
